Insomnia breeds blog postings

I can’t sleep right now, a perfect time for blogging! I did another studio art test a couple of weeks ago. They asked me if I could storyboard, I’d never considered myself a storyboard artist but what the heck. So I gave it my best go. I thought I’d share my favorite page from the set. I think it’s pretty self explanatory, but probably a little too detailed for board work.

Quick Sketch

Filed under: Sketches, Photoshop — November 26, 2007

I’ve decided I need to start doing more quick paintings.  I did this one during lunch today, so I guess it took about an hour. Maybe a little less, but the goal is to get faster so gotta start somewhere. Enjoy.

Hammer and Gun

Filed under: Sketches, Characters — October 2, 2007

I sketched this up while I was hanging out at my girlfriend’s house. All in all I’m pleased. Clearly I was fussing over the boots a bit but it doesn’t bother me in the end.

I just started a new project. This is the first image I’ve made that I haven’t wanted to destroy. I’m not sure that it will make the final cut, but it’s got the ball rolling. I can’t say much about the project here, but I’m sure I’ll post more images in the weeks to come. Enjoy.

Last Squidy

At least for a while. I, for one reason or another, have been drawing a lot of squid like monsters. I think I’m going to give it a rest for a bit. I drew this one during a particularly long meeting at work. I know, I should be taking notes, but when I doodle it helps me focus. Then again, I doodled all the way through school, and when I had to take a test all I could remember was the thing I drew in my note book.

Dunwich Horror

Some of you may know that I’m a big Lovecraft fan. I was doodling one day and this sketch formed and I had a lot of fun with it. I was fussing with the darks for awhile but I think I was on the verge of killing the piece so I stopped. I may go back to the original and fuss some more, but sometimes you just have to let the drawing go and try to do better on the next one. Also for those who have been asking, I’m working on enabling comments so that should be working soon. Thanks for asking. I’m just happy people are looking at my site.

Squid Daddy Sketch

Filed under: Sketches, Paintings — July 24, 2007

Shortly After “Squid Baby” I made this gouache sketch. I think mostly I wanted to give gouach another try. I hadn’t touched it since art school. I’m fairly pleased with how it came out.

A little oil sketch. This one is mostly for my girlfriend, she’s had a few dreams about little babies with squid tentacles. I guess the image just stuck with me.

Goat head sketch

This one was a lot of fun and I really like the final sketch. I’m thinking about making a full illustration based of this sketch.

I did this one just for fun while I was watching a movie at home.
