Back in the Saddle

Filed under: Sketches, Photoshop — June 9, 2008

It’s been a crazy few weeks. Anyhow, I’ve been meaning to do some more of these timed drawings so here’s another one! I did this over my lunch break. The time limit on this was 55 minutes, and the theme was Kung-Fu.  I got the theme and time off the CG talk forums. I guess I should post it there too. To be honest the internet scares me a bit. I feel like a dinosaur in that regard. I guess I should just get over it though. Anyhow, hope you like it.

It’s ALIVE! 30 min sketch

Filed under: Sketches, Photoshop — April 1, 2008

My buddy Derek has been doing some 30 minute drawing with some of our pals. I finally made the time to participate. The topic was “It’s Alive!” . Here’s what I came up with. It’s a lot of fun to do these. It makes me think fast and problem solve around the time restraint. Good times, I think I’ll do some more of these as time goes on.

It never Ends

Two posts in less than a week. Hopefully I can keep the pace up. So awhile ago, I posted an image that I liked. I still like it but as I looked at it as the months went on I felt it really deserved a polished version. Here it is! It was fun, things have been slow at work, so it’s been nice to work on my own stuff for a bit. So often I never get to “finish” anything. It was nice to do a piece and then stop on my own terms rather than let a deadline tell me when I was done. Of course who knows, in a few more months I may feel the need to polish this one some more.

Still a Starving Puppy

Filed under: Sketches, Pen and Ink — March 14, 2008

So I’ve still been neglecting my blog, but at least I’m trying. I’ve been getting some positive emails from folks out there in the world. So knowing now for sure that people are looking at my blog I feel like I should post more often. Of course, saying it is way easier than doing it. But I’ve been working on some cool stuff so I’m looking forward to getting those up. Anyhow, I like this sketch. I came together really well. I’ve got this brush pen that has quickly become my favorite thing to sketch with. I can get some really solid blacks and fine lines. Unlike most brush pens, the tip is made of sythetic hairs instead of felt, so it feels a lot more like a real brush. I wish I knew what it was called so I could tell you the name. But I got it in Japan Town so I have no idea what the package says. Oh well. enjoy!

Cause N8 made me do it

Filed under: Sketches, Pen and Ink — February 20, 2008

So, my buddy N8 reminded me today that a Blog is like a Puppy, and that my Puppy needed attention. I’ve been meaning to post but life has been busy. Anyhow, It felt really good to just sit down and bang out some studies tonight so please enjoy. You happy now N8?

Adornment

Filed under: Sketches, Photoshop — January 11, 2008

I really like this one. I did this drawing during some down time at work. I drew this in photoshop, but I used the same approach as I would with paper and pencil. I wanted to create something that was beautiful but unnatural, and still have it appear to be very organic. Enjoy!

New Media, Classic Approach

Filed under: Sketches, Photoshop — December 10, 2007

I did this one at the end of the day at work. I think of it like warm-down after you exercise. It lets you put away the thoughts and energy associated with work. I did exactly the way you would if you were doing a tone paper drawing. I love those, you can get a lot of ideas down quickly. Enjoy.

Resting While Rendering

Filed under: Sketches, Photoshop — November 29, 2007

It was a tough one at work today. It was real difficult to focus today and at the end I needed to just paint something for myself. This one took about and hour or so. I’ve been trying to embrace rich color while also trying not to let the picture become gaudy. It may not stand the test of time, but for now I’m pretty happy with it.

Up Late Sketching

Filed under: Sketches, Photoshop — November 29, 2007

Like it says up late sketching. I’m not sure if late night doodling is healthy, (in fact I’m sure it’s not) but sometimes I have a lot of nervous energy and all I can do is draw.

Wednesday Night Sketch Group

It’s been awhile since I’ve been, but I usually out with some drawing pals on Wednesday nights. We usually hold up at a pub or some other sort of place and draw. There’s also a fair amount of therapy. It’s nice to have a sympathetic ear if you had a bum day at the job. I was a little tired tonight night but here’s my best page. I couldn’t do much but try and catch some likenesses from across the room. Mostly it was nice just to shut down a bit and concentrate on drawing. Enjoy.
